It is back!! Troop 149, it's time for our annual treehouse trip with the Webelos 2 scouts. This annual trip helps the Webelos meet some achievement requirements and introduces them (and their families) to Troop 149. We hope that all of you can make it!

We will leave Friday Nov 19 between 4:30-5pm and return on Sunday Nov 21 before lunch. The Webelos will be joining us Saturday morning with the option to camp on Saturday night. Webelos 2 scouts-plan to join us at the troop meeting on Monday Nov 15th at 7pm.

Troop 149 scouts-This year you will have an option of camping or staying in a cabin. Please indicate on the signup which you prefer.

Where

The Treehouse Camp, also known as the Maple Tree Campground. This is a unique campground about 1.5 hours away in Maryland. Close to Antietam and Harpers Ferry in a beautiful wooded setting right on the Appalachian Trail. Their website is:

http://www.thetreehousecamp.com/

Cost:

$68 (Does NOT include food). Pay via PayPal, Links at bottom of post.

$20 cash to grubmasters at departure Friday Nov 21 ($25 for adults)

What to bring:

Everyone will need to have either their Covid vaccination record or a negative covid test within 72 hours of departure (no earlier than 4:30pm on Wednesday November 17).

Webelos, use the packing list in your Webelos Handbook. At the meeting on November 15th we review the list and plan meals. It will be chilly at camp: warm clothes, dry socks, and a mess kit are needed. Please bring a sleeping bag, pad and tent if you plan to camp Saturday night. You will tent with your parent.

Adults, Pack for cool (cold) weather. You will also need a sleeping bag, sleeping pad and a tent if you have one. Make sure you have a cup for hot beverages if you will be drinking coffee.

Food: Webelos 2 scouts who plan to come on Saturday should attend the Boy Scout Troop Meeting on Monday Nov 15 at CUMC starting at 7 PM. The boys will team up with a Boy Scout Patrol and plan a menu for the weekend. A Boy Scout family will buy the food--we call these scouts the "grubmasters." When you arrive at camp Saturday morning $20 cash should be given to your scouts grubmaster. All the adults, including the leaders, will eat as a group. Adults have their own grubmaster who will need to be given $25 cash to cover the cost of food.

Schedule:

All scouts and drivers should arrive at the CUMC parking lot no later than 4:30 pm on Friday the 19th. Directions will be available. It's about a 2 hour drive. Bring a bag dinner. We will eat when in the car on the way or when we get there.

On Saturday the Webelos will arrive at 9am. Get oriented and then go on a short hike on the Appalachian Trail, which is within walking distance from the campground. They will see some great vistas on a non-strenuous section of the Trail, While this is happening, the Boy Scouts will set up various "stations," where several fun activities will happen after the hike. The Webelos will learn some first aid, practice orienteering and help to build a fire. These are some of the things that we've learned as Boy Scouts and we look forward to teaching them to the Webelos.

Lunch will occur at some point and the activities will end in the afternoon so that everybody has some down time before dinner. Weather permitting we will have a campfire and maybe we can teach each other some skits.

The next morning, we get up and have a cold breakfast. We break camp and aim to get back to Arlington around noon, on the Lorcom Lane side of CUMC. We'll return whatever Troop camping gear we used to the Scout Room......and go home.
